Stromberg Stash Project

Lorraine Stromberg's family has donated her very large fabric stash to Treadle On, with the request that we sort it and divide it among charity quilting groups. Lorraine was particularly active in quilting for Project Linus and for veterans activities. Her son Kurt is delivering the fabric to us at the Seattle TOGA, where we, as volunteers will take on the sorting and distribution to appropriate groups. I am truly pleased at the eagerness with which TOGA attendees have stepped up to take this on. It will be the principal activity for a substantial amount of our TOGA time, but I can't help but think that it is one of the most meaningful and moving things we've done at a TOGA yet.

Here are a couple of pictures of just a small representative sample of Lorraine's stash that is coming to us:

This is a box of fabric as purchased. I'm told there are approx. 60 such boxes.

These are large, flat boxes of fabric sorted, washed and ironed... in some cases already sorted for specific quilts. I'm told there are approx. 60 boxes like this...

Some of the flat boxes are quilts in progress. In some cases, as this one, the fabrics are ready for the start of the block making. In others, like the one below this one labelled "Oklahoma Twister", it appears the blocks have been finished and the quilt is awaiting assembly. It appears the border fabrics are already selected as well.

In addition to the boxed fabrics as shown, there are an unspeficed, but "large" number of bolts and partial bolts of fabric. We've got a big job folks... let's be up to it!
