Mystery Quilt I

"Survivor - Rectangle Island"

Step 3 - Cutting Two More Pieces

The next two piece shapes you will need will be cut from your background fabric. This is a larger piece of goods and you may have it sized and folded to various measurements, so I won't to too specific here. Basically, you need to cut 2" strips. At this point, both versions of the quilt are still the same and will take the same number of pieces. You are going to need a total of 960" of 2" strip. This is a deliberately a high measurement. Itwill allow for not getting quite as many pieces out of some of your strips as out of others, etc.

After you have the strips cut, you will then cut them into 80 pieces that are 4 1/2" long and 80 pieces that are 7 1/2" long.

Here I have a large piece of my white background folded up into four layers and I am getting ready to cut a 2" strip. Note that I'm using the wide ruler for this cut, even though the cut will be relatively narrow. It will be a long cut and the wide ruler allows more hand pressure so that the ruler doesn't move.

Once I have the 2" strips cut, I will trim them to 4 1/2" pieces and then 7 1/2" pieces using the narrower ruler, which gives a nice long edge to keep things true.

And here we have the pieces we've cut so far... 7 1/2" strips, 4 1/2" strips and patterned fabric 4 1/2" squares.

You're doing great! You have obviously been able to find the clues so far and have progressed to this point. Now the real fun begins... putting things together...

Hmmm.... I thought ET would post another clue here by now, but he seems to have gone off on a bender. No telling when he'll get back home... probably late.. or in what kind of a mood!

Captain Dick

Fourth Clue

Off on a bender?! Ha! Like I couldn’t handle me rum? Ha, again… and three aarrgghs! That wimp just wouldn’t know a good time if it came up out of the sea and swallowed him whole!

So, ye be wantin’ another clue, eh? I should let ye stew…. Let the tension build. Keep ye in the dark… or, I could just make it tougher… make ye dig a lot deeper. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

You may find this clue hard to swallow. If the tension is getting to you just remember that when you’re up to your ass in alligators, It’s hard to remember you set out to drain the swamp.

Mwaaahahahah!!!!!!
