Onions are both a stale of the Treadleonian diet and an important export. The Onion Fields are exceptionally fertile land that was reclaimed from the sea by building Graham Fors' Dike. Graham Fors was the visionary engineer who conceived and directed this project.

Treadleonian Onion Fields in Bloom

When the onions first come up and bloom, the fields are beautiful. However, the planting, harvesting and weeding are backbreaking work, and help is always needed. Given the fact that no one can carry more than 25 units of the official Treadleonian currency (large iron coins called "Sewing Machines, or SM/s) and the rather hazardous nature of traveling about in Treadleonia, Treadleonians often find themselves in need of some quick financial aid. Under Treadleonian law, anyone requesting work in the onion fields must be given two days work at the rate of 3 SM/s per day. This allows them to get on their way and attempt to otherwise rebuild their fortune or keep adventuring.
