Block Making Instructions for the Fall 2005 TOBE

The Fall 2005 Treadle On TOBE is a bit different from previous ones. We will be doing the Birds in the Air block (BITA), but we have opted to have two "nested" exchanges (Birds in the Air - nested... sorry, I couldn't resist...) There will be one exchange featuring simplified four-patch BITA and one featuring a more difficult design called a "Split 9 Patch" BITA. This one looks like it could be a 9 Patch, but isn't. Both are blocks that require more precise piecing than we have made necessary in the past. These blocks really can't be made oversized and then cut down to size. The four patch version has only one vertical and one horzontal seam, while the nine patch version has two seams in each direction. Obviously, the nine patch is going to be more difficult and require an even greater degree of precision. It is recommended for more advanced or experienced quilters.
