Making a TOBE Block Sewing Machine Cover
These instructions on making a very useful sewing machine cover using TOBE blocks come from Marilyn Hale in Texas. Most of us have at least one machine we leave out for immediate use in case of a sewing machine panic attack... this will keep the dust off of it.
Hi Captain,
I hope these pictures work; use what you think best and zap the rest. Instructions for the SM covers:
Using 1/4 inch seams, sew together 8 TOBE blocks (2x4, four squares for front, four for back). Cut 2 end pieces, about 8" x 10.5". Taper at the top, making rounded corners. Mark center top of end sections, pin to long edges of pieced blocks, matching center of cover (will be at the top). Ease in fullness at curves. Stitch in 1/4 inch seam. Narrow hem or add contrasting band at hem. (Before sewing on the end pieces, check to see if the cover seems too narrow for the machine; if so, add coordinating fabric strips on each edge before sewing on end pieces).
Thanks, and have a good week.
